Send Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao on leave, V Hanumantha Rao writes to Smriti Irani
Hyderabad: Congress senior MP V. Hanumantha Rao on Thursday demanded that Union Human Resources Development minister Smriti Irani send UoH Vice-Chancellor P. Appa Rao again on leave till normalcy is restored in the prestigious university.
In a letter to the Union Minister, the senior MP blamed Mr Appa Rao resuming his duties as the Vice-Chancellor after a two-month hiatus, for the escalation of tension in the University in the last few days. The tension had led to closure of the mess and deployment of heavy police force in the campus following acts of vandalism, allegedly by the students.
Mr Hanumantha Rao asked the Union minister how could Mr Appa Rao resume duties when the one-man commission was yet to submit its report on the incidents that happened on the campus, including the suicide of Rohith Vemula.
“Under the present circumstances, allowing Mr Appa Rao to join duties is completely unwarranted and provocative,” the senior MP wrote in his letter.
He demanded the Union minister to either shift Mr Appa Rao to another university or ask him to go on leave again till the commission submits its findings.
