Thalassery MLA AN Shamseer gets jail for speech against cops

He also allegedly threatened that the police officers should remember that they have family.

KANNUR: Thalassery MLA A.N. Shamseer has been sentenced to three months imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 by Kannur First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with a speech allegedly threatening policemen. The court ruling was based on a complaint filed by Kannur Town SI Sanal Kumar T. In the speech in July, 2012 during an SP office march against police action on SFI workers Shamseeer said that Kannur DySP P Sukumaran would face the fate of police officer Subba Rayan who was stoned and drowned to death in Kayyur by Communist activists.

He also allegedly threatened that the police officers should remember that they have family. The case was registered based on Kerala Police Act Section 117 C.
After the judgement, Shamseer appeared before the court and took bail. He added that he will give appeal against the ruling.
