Hyderabad: Citylight Hotel collapse debris not shifted for three years

Hyderabad: When Citylight Hotel collapsed in Secunderabad three years ago, the GHMC took up a drive to demolish old buildings. One such building in Domalguda, known as the market yard, was also demolished but the debris was left at the same place.

There has been no activity at the spot for three years, and the plot had turned into a place to throw garbage. “Many residents complained about the dust from the debris but were ignored. No official answered to our queries,” said Ms. Manjulatha a resident of Domalguda.

Some people have started using the place for small businesses. Mr K. Rahul Kumar, a shop owner, said the debris had turned into a problem. Asked about the debris, GHMC deputy commissioner Mukund Reddy said there was a plan to construct a new building after the old structure was demolished. “The process has taken a long time. However, the plan may workout this year,” he said.

It’s still a mess under Tolichowki flyover
The Tolichowki flyover was constructed to ease traffic problems, but the situation on the road underneath remains unchanged. There is no traffic signal at the crossroad which is used by hundreds of motorists to reach Janakinagar, Meraj Colony and Hakeempet. One of the roads leads to the Qutb Shahi tombs and Golconda.

Traffic frequently chokes at this spot. The traffic is not regulated because of which traffic jams here, said Mr Md. Tousif a public relations executive. Dr Murali Krishna, who uses the road, said, “The road to Limra Hotel is always jammed because hawkers who have occupied the road sides.” Local MLA Kausar Mohiuddin said there was a need to install a traffic signal at the junction.
