National award for Cochin international airport
KOCHI: The national award for the best non-metro airport instituted on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the Air Passengers Association of India has been bagged by Cochin international airport. Mumbai was selected the best metro airport. The airports were selected after a survey among passengers at the national level in July and August this year. Cochin airport currently holds the seventh position in terms of total passengers travelling through it, while in the case of international passengers, this airport is in the fourth place.
In the last fiscal, 77 lakh passengers transited through the airport. The award was given by Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to CIAL airport director A.C.K. Nair at a function held in New Delhi the other day. The function was attended by Union Ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Smriti Irani, Union Civil Aviation Secretary R N Chowbe and Air Passengers Association of India national president Sudhakar Reddy.
