CPI meet today to discuss probables

The state executive will be followed by state council meeting on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI state executive will meet on Saturday to review the results of the Assembly polls and hold preliminary discussions on the probables for Cabinet. The state executive will be followed by state council meeting on Monday.

CPI has emerged as the party with the highest strike rate in the state winning 70 percent of the seats it contested to the Assembly. Of the 27 seats it contested, the party won 19 seats. In 2011 election also the CPI had contested 27 seats.
But they could win only 13. It should also be noted that the CPI could retain all the seats it won in the previous assembly election.

What more, the party could ensure the victory of other LDF candidates also in their stronghold Kollam and Thrissur districts. In Kollam, the LDF won all the eleven seats. Of them CPI won the four seats it contested. These are R Ramachandran (Karungappally), K Raju (Punalur), Mullakkara Ratna-karan (Chadayaman-galam) and G S Jayalal (Chathanoor).

Of these seats the party had huge majority in three. Mr Ratnakaran won by a margin of 21, 928, Mr Raju with a margin of 33,552 and Mr Jayalal with a margin of 34,407. However, the highest number of seats for the party came from Thrissur district where it won five segments. In Thrissur, it also helped the LDF in winning eleven out of the 12 seats.

The winners of the CPI from Thrissur district included K Rajan from Ollur with a lead of 13,248 votes, Geetha Gopi from Nattika with a majority of 26,777 votes, T E Taison Master from Kaipamangalam with a lead of 33,440 votes, V S Sunilkumar from Thrissur with a lead of 6987 votes and V R Sunilkumar from Kodungalloor with 22,791 votes.

CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran while reacting to the victory said that the party had made all out efforts to retain the seats it lost in 2011. For the credit of the party, it could achieve its goal partially, Mr Rajendran said.
