Incidents of attacks on fishermen have declined: D Jayakumar
Earlier, Mr Ramasamy sought the government to take steps to free 103 fishermen attested by the Lankan authorities.
Chennai: Incidents of attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lanka navy have declined following Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s proactive measures, fisheries minister D. Jayakumar has claimed.
Responding to an issue raised by Congress legislature party leader K.R. Ramasamy in the Assembly on Wednesday Mr Jayakumar said the Chief Minister had ensured the release of fishermen and also their vessels.
“In fact, during the previous DMK regime the occurrence of attacks has been more and so were the fatalities then,” he remarked.
Earlier, Mr Ramasamy sought the government to take steps to free 103 fishermen attested by the Lankan authorities and also secure the release of their boats.
