Dr BR Ambedkar kin slams Justice Ashok Kumar Roopanwal commission
Hyderabad: Mr Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, on Sunday said Telangana state was formed after many dharnas and agitations.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should understand the importance of such struggles, he said. Mr Ambedkar told the media: “I do not know what Mr Rao’s next political move is but his steps seem to be going towards the BJP as he is not allowing any voice against the BJP or the RSS. The government must be challenged politically."
He criticised the Justice Ashok Kumar Roopanwal commission, formed by the Union ministry of human resource development to inquire into Rohith Vemula's suicide.
Mr Ambedkar said: “The chairman of the committee is not educated about court judgements. In a landmark judgement the Supreme Court has ruled that a child can take his mother’s caste. The commission’s responsibility was to probe the suicide and find who was responsible and not to find Rohith’s caste. The National Commission for Scheduled Caste has said that Rohith Vemula was a dalit and Telangana police should start investigation into the case immediately.”
