IMD Caution on Paddy Variety Selected by State Government for Kharif

The IMD also said though the monsoon entered Telangana on June 8, it has not covered the state so far.

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department has cautioned farmers to stay away from raising nurseries of one of the seven fine varieties of rice that the state government has said farmers should be encouraged to plant this kharif season.

In its agro-meteorological advisory service bulletin for Telangana, the IMD on June 16 said farmers should not sow paddy nurseries using Telangana Sona (RNR 15048) in June, given the rainfall so far.

c. Instead, it said farmers should take up sowing of rainfed crops like cotton, soybean, maize, jowar, redgram, greengram, blackgram, and castor.

This activity too, the IMD said, should be taken up “only after receiving cumulative rainfall of 50-60 mm in light soils and 60-75 mm in heavy soils within a week, or when the top 15 to 20 cm of rain becomes wet and stays wet.
