Malaysia Masters: Carolina Marin overpowers Saina Nehwal, advances to final

The Spaniard presented Nehwal with no chance whatsoever to make a comeback.

Kuala Lumpur: Saina Nehwal went down to three-time world champion Carolina Marin 21-16, 21-13 in the women’s singles semi-finals of the USD 350,000 Malaysia Masters here on Saturday.

In the first game, the Olympic champion trailed four points but scripted a stellar comeback to bag the game by 21-16.

She continued her fine run in the second game, emerging triumphant by a margin of 21-13 to make way into the finals.

Saina has defeated Marin five times and has lost to the Spaniard as many times in the last 10 meetings.

A gutsy Nehwal had earlier scripted a hard-fought straight-game win over former world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan to enter the women’s singles semifinals of the USD 350,000 Malaysia Masters here on Friday.
