Here's what skipper Virat Kohli said about Team India's 9-0 clean sweep of Sri Lanka
Colombo: India completed the total domination of Sri Lanka as they won the solitary T20I in Colombo on Wednesday to complete 9-0 clean sweep of the Island nation. India won the Colombo T20 by seven wickets to wrap up the tour on a high.
The Virat Kohli-led unit demolished Sri Lanka 3-0 in the three-match Test series and followed it up by 5-0 win in the ODI series. The T20I win was an icing on the cake as Sri Lanka failed to win even a single game against the visitors.
The Indian skipper was ecstatic as he talked about India’s super show in Sri Lanka.
“(It is) Very special, hasn't been done before (talking about the clean sweep). Credit to all the hard work the boys have put in. (It is an) Evidence of the fact how hungry the players are in Indian cricket, and how the bench strength is coming along so beautifully. (I am) Very, very happy as a captain,” said Kohli during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Kohli was once again at the forefront in the run-chase as he scored 82 off 54 balls to help India go past Sri Lankan total.
“I look to back my strengths in T20 cricket, look to play good cricketing shots. It's something I've practiced very hard to mould my game to all formats, because I want to play all games for India,” said Kohli.
Kohli also lauded Manish Pandey’s contribution in India’s win in T20 at the R Premadasa Stadium. Pandey joined Kohli after India had lost their openers – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul – early in the chase. The Kohli-Pandey duo shared a 119-run partnership after India were two down for 42.
“When you're two-down chasing 171, we knew it won't be easy. One good partnership will get us through. Manish was outstanding as well today. That partnership was very crucial. He stayed till the end and finished it off, credit to him,” concluded Kohli.
