To dismiss Rohit Sharma was a great feeling: Kasun Rajitha

Sri Lanka lead 3-match Twenty20 series against India.

Mumbai: Sri Lanka's 22-year-old new right-hand medium fast bowler Kasun Rajitha, who made a sensational international debut against Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian team by grabbing the top two wickets in his first over in Pune on Tuesday, is happy for the prize wicket of Rohit Sharma.

Ahead of second Twenty 20 in Ranchi, he said, "I did not know what to expect at this level playing for the first time. However, getting the wicket of Rohit Sharma, my first at International level, was a great feeling because he is also holding the ODI record of scoring 264 runs in an innings."

"My one ambition was to play for my country one day and I am happy that it came to pass and I also managed to perform well."

Expressing his joy for the first over in the international cricket, Rajitha added, "That was magical and it was a great first over on my debut especially against a team like India, which is a very good team in world cricket. I could not have asked for anything more than this also the fact that we won the match."

Rajitha was declared the Man of the Match. Being not fluent in English, he was not interviewed by the TV commentator (Sanjay Manjrekar) at the prize distribution ceremony at the end of the match on Tuesday.

"It was historic and had never expected this award in my first game playing for the first time against such great players from both sides, What more could I ask it is a magical moment and I felt I was on the moon," he added with the help of Jerome Jayaratne (team assistant coach and manager) as an interpreter.

"Yes, I spoke to all my family members back at home and they were happy at my achievement, they all did say that I deserved it for all the hard work. I had put into my cricket over the years."

"I intend to keep improving with my bowling and perform consistently for my country in trying to play more games for my nation," the bowler signed off.
