Announce Team India head coach by Tuesday evening: CoA chairman Vinod Rai to BCCI
Mumbai: Chairman of Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators, Vinod Rai, has asked the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) to announce the new head coach by Tuesday evening.
Virat Kohli’s Team India is without a head coach, since Anil Kumble’s exit in June, following a rift with captain Kohli.
"Mr. Rai has asked the BCCI to announce the name of the head coach by Tuesday evening. He has spoken to the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and to the BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary and asked them to name the head coach,” a source was quoted as saying to Sportstar.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member Sourav Ganguly, after the interviews of five candidates for the coach job, had said that the announcement of the new coach would be put on hold.
He had also added that the CAC would meet Virat Kohli on the appointment of new coach, after he and his team returns from their tour of West Indies. “We need to talk to a few people, especially the captain (Virat Kohli),” Ganguly had earlier said.
However, Ganguly later clarified that the motive of the CAC was to inform Kohli about the coach, and not ask his opinion. “Kohli has given no inputs and not sent any names. We feel he and everyone need to be on the same page,” he said.
The CAC, which also comprises of former India cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman had on Monday conducted the interviews of five candidates – Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput – for the job.
