Watch: R Ashwin creates history, becomes fastest bowler to take 250 Test wickets
Hyderabad: India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the most key players for the Virat Kohli-led side during the ongoing home season.
It is no surprise that the Indian selectors, who have started giving more importance to the longer version of the game, had rested the Chennai lad for the five-match ODI series against New Zealand last year, and the three-match T20I series against England earlier this year.
However, Ashwin has been a regular in the Indian Test side, and is currently playing his ninth out of the 13 Tests that India are set to play this season.
Now the 30-year-old has created history by becoming the fastest bowler to take 250 wickets in Test cricket.
While Ashwin’s wicket-haul in the first innings against Bangladesh was not that high (he picked up only two wickets), the spinner showcased his credentials by dismissing two of the Tigers’ most influential batsmen – Shakib Al Hasan (82) and Mushfiqur Rahim (127).

This feat takes Ashwin (45 matches) ahead of former Australian bowler Dennis Lillee, who took 48 Tests to get to the 250-wicket mark. Ashwin leads a line of illustrious bowlers on this list – Dale Steyn (49 Tests), Allan Donald (50 Tests), Waqar Younis (51 Tests).
