Ishant Sharma opens up on his banter with Steve Smith during India-Australia series
Mumbai: India’s convincing 2-1 series win against Australia earlier in 2017 had many memorable moments. Ishant Sharma’s hilarious face mocking before Australian captain Steve Smith during the 2nd Test in Bengaluru was one of them, when the two were having a go at each other in the middle of the park.
Recently in an interview with Vikram Sathaye in his show What the Duck, the Indian pacer recalled the hilarious sledging incident with the Australian skipper that is still fresh in the mind of cricket lovers. Here's a clip of the incident:
“He (Smith) kept saying ‘well-bowled mate’ whenever he sneaked a single against me during Pune Test, initially I wasn’t able to understand what he was saying because of the Australian accent is not easy to understand. It was after some time when I asked him what he was saying. He then told me that he was praising my bowling. Hearing this I told straight in his face ‘you never praised me when I bowled at you in Australia, only now you find my bowling good and praising my effort,” the Indian bowler said.
After constant attempts to annoy Smith failed, Ishant made a comical gesture at the Australian captain that caught his attention. Smith, however, did not remain silent and responded with a witty expression of his own on playing the next ball. Indian captain Virat Kohli could not stop himself from bursting out into laughter before calming down the situation.
Ishant will now look forward to the Test tour of Sri Lanka as he has been included in the 15-man squad for the series.
