Stan Wawrinka has taken to the beach to abandon his Miami Open misery and instead soak up the sun with girlfriend Donna Vekic. The 32-year-old was joined by his tennis-playing partner for a stroll along the beach, after being eliminated from the Miami Open by 19-year-old German ace Alexander Zverev. Wawrinka and Vekic embraced the early summer sun by donning swimwear and finding a prime location on the beach to settle down and relax.
Despite being top seed, Wawrinka was defeated by Zverev to crash out of the competition at a premature stage. The Swiss star had taken the first set, only for Zverev to stage a comeback and battle against the odds to emerge victorious. The result came as somewhat of a blow to Wawrinka, who had also just celebrated his 32nd birthday while out in Miami.
The tournament organisers had presented the top seed with a birthday cake following his clash with Zverev, sporting emojis on the icing and the inscription ‘Stan the Man.’ Wawrinka now currently finds himself third in the ATP world tennis rankings.
