Is Apple working on a new 4-inch iPhone?
When Apple launched the iPhone SE in early 2016, the company hoped its iPhone to reach the masses in a smaller form factor. In essence, the iPhone SE was basically an iPhone 5s with the iPhone 6s’ chipset and camera. Even though the device got mixed reviews, the SE became a well-known name in the premium smartphone segment before Apple slashed its prices to bring it on par with mid-range smartphones. Now, it seems that Apple is planning to revamp its sub 5-inch smartphone contender for this year.
According to a report from iGeneration, Apple is readying a 4-inch smartphone and planning to unveil it next month, when the mainstream next generation iPhones are expected as well. The report even goes on to mention that the next generation iPhones, i.e. the iPhone 8 or the iPhone 7s will be launched later in the fourth quarter of 2017. This buys more valuable time for the company to complete the iPhone 8/ 7s with all the expected features.
The report also mentions that the new iPhone SE could be priced around 399 Euros, which is lesser than the price of the original iPhone SE. If this rumour takes shape, then the revamped iPhone SE could be Apple’s gateway to the mid-range smartphone segment. However, Apple would need to address the original iPhone SE’s shortcomings to make the new SE a worthy challenger to the popular mid-range smartphones.
