Xiaomi confirms MIUI 9 launch for India
After keeping the media and its fans guessing for a few days, Xiaomi has officially unveiled on Twitter its intentions of launching the MIUI 9 OS for the Indian market on its 2nd November event. Along with that, the company will also be launching a new selfie-centric smartphone.
MIUI 9 was unveiled in China a few months ago along with the Mi 5X smartphone. While the Mi 5X made its way to India last month in the form of an Android One smartphone by the name of Mi A1, MIUI 9 had been available to the beta testers. Beta build generally contains a lot of bugs and issues and is therefore not released widely.
With MIUI 9’s India launch, Xiaomi will also show what the final global version of MIUI 9 will look like. MIUI 9 is based on Android Nougat’s underpinnings but will bring a lot of new features to older Xiaomi smartphones. MIUI 9 Global ROM is expected to massively improve app load times, implement subtle UI changes, bring in the split-screen mode as well as Picture-in-Picture mode — a feature that has been exclusive to Android Oreo as of now. Most of the recently launched Xiaomi devices will get the update before it rolls out to older Android devices.
Xiaomi is also launching a new series of selfie-centric smartphones to kickstart the MIUI 9 release. No concrete information has been revealed about this mysterious smartphone, apart from the fact it will run MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. However, initial rumours about this to be the Mi Note 3 has also been negated by the company through a teaser. Stay tuned for further updates on this regard.
