YouTube has rolled out HDR support in its latest update to the YouTube mobile app. With HDR, users will able to see more colours and dynamic contrasts in videos. The HDR support will work on videos with picture resolution of up to 1080p and 60fps as of now.
If you have a smartphone that supports HDR viewing, then you can bask in the goodness of enhanced colours, brightness and contrast. However, only a few smartphones support HDR playback capabilities — Google Pixel, LG V30, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium are only smartphones that are capable of decoding HDR content. Unitil now, HDR content was available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. With the addition of YouTube, owners of these premium smartphones will be able to experience the best of mobile entertainment technology that can be conceived in 2017.
