OnePlus 2 misses Android Nougat update
In what comes as depressing news for OnePlus 2 fans, the Chinese smartphone company has confirmed that they will be missing the Android Nougat update and any further OS updates. OnePlus has confirmed with Android Authority, stating that they don’t have the software support infrastructure for the OP2 and hence decided to do away with OS updates for the device.
Earlier, OnePlus said that they were planning the Nougat update for both the OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 2. The OnePlus 2 fell under the two-year software support category when the Android Nougat was announced. However, the company now says that they never set up a software support team for the device when it was launched. Also, the OP2 is now a dated device in the company’s product cycle books and they want to assign resources for working on the Android O update for the OnePlus 3/3T and the upcoming OnePlus 5.
This may come as a blow to OnePlus fans who bought into their products assuming that they would be getting the best and the latest in the world of mobile tech on their smartphones. Moreover, the Nougat update was initially promised to OP2 owners. It could have easily been given the update, considering the mighty specification even by today’s standards – SD810, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and a 13MP rear camera. However, OP2 owners should be able to use it for a year more as Android 6.0 is known to be a very stable OS and has Google’s support for a few years.
