Apple plans to put holes in your future iPhone's display
Apple has won a patent reward on a new technology that put holes in the Apple’s next flagship iPhone 8 from the US Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday.
Apple is already speculated to feature bezel-less display in iPhone 8 and the recent patent filing by Apple is making fans curious about the flagship.
In the listing, Apple describes the patent as an “electronic devices having displays with openings.” It says the display may have one or more openings that may be organised in an array like a window thorough which a user can view an external object. In fact, the opening could also be used to view a secondary display.
Additionally, the device could include a camera, a light sensor, a light-based proximity sensor, status indicator lights, a touch sensor array, a speaker, and a microphone.
The openings mentioned in the patent is said to be located in the active portion of the display. If included, the opening will serve to pass electronic signals associated with other electronic components included in the device. For example a microphone which may receive acoustic signals through the openings. Sound from a speaker may be emitted through the openings.
According to earlier reports, Apple is considering an all-display feature, and is expected to embed the Touch ID fingerprint sensor into the iPhone 8’s screen. In addition, it is also speculated to use OLED displays for the next model.
Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo had hinted earlier that the new iPhone 8 will have an all-glass body as well, and that Apple is likely to go for an OLED display.
It is still not confirmed whether Apple will feature such kind of display in the iPhone 8, however, future iPhone could sport it.
