Vivo to beat Apple, Samsung at their game with fingerprint sensor in display
In the midst of Apple and Samsung finding a way and struggling to place the fingerprint sensor right beneath the display, A Chinese smartphone manufacturer has already beaten the two tech giants to their own game. Chinese company Vivo has already given its final touches to its next product, named Vivo X9 Plus, has been rumoured to come with a fingerprint sensor within the display itself. This new technology makes it easier for manufacturers to make the phone lighter by a margin or add new components in the vacant space where the fingerprint sensor usually comes below the home button upfront or on the rear of the device.
According to Gizchina, Vivo will be the first smartphone company to launch a phone with an optical fingerprint sensor mounted below the display. A leaked video posted on Weibo a few days ago, and now taken down, showed how the Vivo X9 Plus-looking smartphone having no dedicated fingerprint sensor in the front or back. However, the guy in the video seems to be unlocking the phone by just touching the display.
According to an industry analyst, Gizchina reported that Vivo will be the first company to implement and introduce the under-screen optical fingerprint scanner in the industry. This could mean that the Vivo X9 Plus would be the first smartphone to beat Apple’s iPhone 8 to the new technology.
The new smartphone is said to be announced at the MWC Shanghai, end of this month, and will reveal a prototype of the handset. The handset is rumoured to sport a 5.8-inch full HD display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor and 6GB of RAM, sporting dual 20MP + 8MP cameras.
