Meet Nokia's Redmi Note 5 challenger with Android One, ZEISS optics
When Nokia unveiled the Nokia 6 last year, it was evident that brand’s loyalists would go for it, overlooking its various shortcomings. While the smartphone had a great build quality, it suffered in the performance department due to the presence of an underpowered Snapdragon chipset. At this year’ MWC, the ‘New’ Nokia 6 looks to fix the issue with a powerful processor. But, it has many other things going for it.
The Nokia 6 2018 now utilises a powerful Snapdragon 630 chipset along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB. While that makes it more powerful than the Redmi Note 5 on paper, it has something else that could sway the public opinion of a great all-rounder midrange smartphone in its favour — Android One ROM. All of Nokia’s premium Android smartphones now adhere to the Android One program, which means they will get a bloat-free user interface made by Google. The bloat-free interface also ensures timely software updates.
Moving ahead, the smartphone sports a 5.5-inch 16:9 full HD LCD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which may not be as modern as the Redmi Note 5. The Nokia 6 is kept alive by a 3000mAh battery, which indicates that it should be good enough for a day. There's a USB Type-C port for charging the phone. The 16MP single rear camera along with the 8MP front camera gain ZEISS optics as well.
The Nokia 6 has been priced at 279 Euros (Rs 22,000 approx) for the European markets. However, the smartphone could gain better specifications and a reduced price tag for the Indian market. We will have to wait and see how this one fares against the likes of the Redmi Note 5, Mi A1 and Moto G5.
