Samsung Galaxy S8: Top 5 features of the smartphone
Samsung on March 29 unveiled Galaxy S8 smartphone in New York with a hope to seek rebound from chaos it faced after withdrawal of the fire-prone Note 7s.
Samsung announced the two models of its flagship—Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus—which only differ in their screen size. The S. Korean technology giant has loaded the smartphone with latest features. We have assembled a list of features that makes the Galaxy S8 stands out from previous Galaxy S models.
Infinity Display:
The two smartphone are available in 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch display size display. The side bezels are barely seen, additionally, Samsung has significantly thinned the above and lower bezel, taking more space for the screen.
Samsung calls it “Infinity Display” —an expanded glass screen that covers the entire front of the device and appears to curve seamlessly around its edges.
Samsung has stretched the display nearly to the bottom of the smartphone, where the home button used to live. The home button has now been replaced with a pressure-sensitive on-screen button housed under the screen.
Face recognition:
Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are packed with biometric technology. In addition to biometric authentication with the fingerprint and iris scanner, both the models come with face recognition technology that can also be used to unlock the smartphones.
Digital Voice-Assistant Bixby:
The two handsets include Samsung’s newly built digital assistant Bixby, competing against Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
The digital assistant can be called up through saying “Bixby” or by a dedicated button on the left side of the smartphone.
Bixby can be called up for managing appointments, placing calls, shopping, information via internet and much more. It will also allow users to get details about nearby places with image recognition technology and geolocation.
10nm processor:
Both smartphones are powered by more efficient 10nm processor: the Qualcomm Snapdragon and/or Exynos 8895.
In-built VR support:
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ unlock the new Gear VR with Controller, powered by Oculus. Samsung has confirmed that it will offer its new Gear VR with controller for free with each eligible purchase of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
The two smartphone will go on sale starting April 21 in European markets, Africa and the Middle East. Samsung hasn't yet announced the release date for the Indian market.
