Shahbaz Sharif will be Pakistan PM in two months, Abbasi to fill in
Islamabad: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will be Pakistan’s new Prime Minister till the time ousted premier Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif is elected as a member of the National Assembly and subsequently as leader of the House.
Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leaders held a meeting here on Saturday under Nawaz Sharif to finalise the new premier. The PML-N also approved Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz to permanently take over as the premier till the 2018 polls.
The younger Sharif will have to step down as the CM to be elected to the National Assembly. Shahbaz is set to contest by-elections in September for a National Assembly seat.
The by-election on NA-120 Lahore, the seat that fell vacant after Nawaz Sharif stepped down as PM, is expected to be held in the second week of September, officials said.
