Thiruvananthapuram: A Malayali engineer has developed a software for stopping piracy of films from theatres.
The developer, Varghese Babu, told DC that the software named ‘Demolish Duplica’ would send messages to the server of the cinema theatre, cyber cell and the distributor if someone tries to shoot the film using a camera, mobile phone or any similar devices.
The device has also facilities for tracking any tampering that takes place during the editing process using electromagnetic waves. “I have already held discussions with various organisations in the film industry and also KSFDC chairman Sabu Cherian on installation of the software,’’ Babu said.
The software developed after three years of research was now going through the patenting process.
The hardware placed near the screen of the cinema theatre would identify the device when it tries to record the film. It would block the recording and send the details of the serial number of the device and location from where the recording is done.
The data can be accessed by cyber cell authorities to take further action, Babu said. “There have been inquiries from various quarters about the software. I want to market the software on my own,’’ Babu said.
