“Why can't we send a rocket to Venus or Jupiter?" asks student to ISRO.
Bengaluru: “Why can't we send a rocket to Venus or Jupiter?”wonders 10-year-old Aditya Verma, a Vth standard student.
Excited about the India’s Mars mission launch, Aditya decided to write a letter to ISRO to show his appreciation. But little did he know that thousands in the country would join him in sharing his zeal. The Mars Mission may have had its share of detractors raising questions regarding the need for such a project.
However, the letter of appreciation from this 10-year-old boy has the whole country literally coming out in support of the mission. With over 11,000 ‘likes’ on ISRO’s Facebook page, Aditya’s letter has hundreds of grown-ups commenting and debating on the mission. Aditya, who studies in the Kendriya Vidyalaya IISc, watched the live streaming of the launch and was jubilant when the rocket finally took to the skies.
Aditya told Deccan Chronicle, “I read a lot about the Mars mission. Finally when the launch vehicle took off successfully, I was so happy and that's when I decided I will write a thank you note to ISRO.
“The young boy, who himself wants to be an ISRO scientist someday said, “I want to build rockets that would go to other planets, there is so much more to be explored in the deep space and India should become a leader in science.”
“He said he wanted to thank ISRO and so he sent the letter. We didn’t even look at it. On the day of the launch he watched all the programmes that were airing the Mars Mission. He likes science and reads so much,” said Meghna Verma, Aditya’s mother.
The letter is drawing several adulatory comments on Facebook. A user Harshdeep Sokhey remarked, “For those who ask why this Mars Mission was required, this letter is a very apt reply. This mission has given our future generations a new hope. It’s a silver lining to the dark clouds of negativity that has taken over the country. Thank you ISRO for giving us and our future generations this new hope.”
Another user Wendy Rao said “Aditya Verma & ISRO....This letter says it ALL....Its proof that this child has had immense exposure to think for himself. Also my sincere best wishes to the parents & teachers of this little boy who has inspired other children to not just have a dream, but to chase them.
Most parents envision what they want their kids to be from the day they are born, if you can't give that up, and see who your child really is, you are going to miss a LOT....Like James Lehman said:--"Parent the child you have, not the one you wished you had."....I am proud to be to be an INDIAN....& to my fellow Indian's IGNORE the Nay Sayers.”
