Kiran Kumar Reddy promises infra for city to hold global film festivals

The 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India began in the city on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India began in the city on Thursday amid cheers by hundreds of children and Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor shaking a leg at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the government had allotted land and the infrastructure would come up to ensure that Hyderabad celebrates international films.

Union I&B minister Manish Tewari patted the city for hosting the event successfully for nine years. “We look forward to the upcoming generation to ensure that Indian culture is upheld in the most creative way,” Tewari said.

State I&PR minister D.K. Aruna promised to improve the infrastructure for the festival. While child celebrities Darsheel Safary and Saloni Daini were the hosts, actor Ranbir Kapoor and Rana Daggubati were special invitees.

Ranbir Kapoor broke into a jig from his famous Chillar Party item number with child celebrities Darsheel and Saloni. Ranbir said the festival offers a mix of education and entertainment.

Talking to the media, he said, “Making films for children is making films for the toughest audience ever as you really need to grasp their attention. Yet, I must say, nothing we do for children is ever a waste.”

Highlighting the needs of the speciallyabled, the event also had a performance by the Ability Unlimited Foundation from Delhi.
