AWBI mulls ban on circus jumbos in India
Animal Welfare Board may consider banning elephants from circuses.
Chennai: Following Peta’s latest investigation revealing that animals used in Indian circuses are subjected to chronic confinement, physical abuse and psychological torment, the AniÂmal Welfare Board of India is considering to stop registering the elephants as performing animals in circuses.
Peta has been doing an investigation and a detailed report is to be submitted soon. The board discussed the issue during its recent geÂneral body meeting and soon the official communiqués will be sent to the state governments seeking better protection for elephants.
