Curbs on Illegal X-ray centres soon
Thrissur: The radio-diagnostic tests that you undergo are often done by unqualified hands. For, the number of unauthorised radiology training institutes is on the rise in Kerala, thanks to the absence of sufficient legal mechanism.
The students passing out from these institutions are provided with certificates signed by incompetent persons and are being employed at X-ray scanning clinics across the state.
“We have noticed over a hundred such institutions offering two-year diploma certificates and functioning without the mandatory certification from the Kerala Paramedical council,’’ said K.A. Davis, Director, Directorate of Radiation Safety.
A recent study conducted by the DRS has found that some of these institutions employed Plus-Two students as resource persons and machine demonstrators.
K. Elangovan, secretary, state health department, said that the authority was planning to form a special squad to audit these institutions.
