No headway in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board-trade union talks

Wage revision talks fails between Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and the trade union.
Chennai: The wage revision talks between Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) and trade union seems to be heading nowhere after a failed talk on Thursday.
Tangedco’s wage revision committee headed by finance director Rajagopal on Thursday proposed a wage hike of five per cent in basic pay and three per cent for those who completed 15 years service as on November 30, 2011. The wage revision has been pending from December 1, 2011. The wage hike would benefit over 80,000 employees of Tangedco.
However, the trade unions sources said that none of the union accepted the Tangedco’s proposal, as the wake hike proposed was very meagre. “During the DMK rule in 2007, a wage hike of over 40 per cent in the pay scales for the employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and one year additional hike for those completed 15 year service. Even during the previous AIADMK rule in 2005, they gave a hike of six per cent. After eight years, now they are proposing an hike of only five per cent. It is totally unacceptable,” said Singara Rathnasabapathy of DMK affiliated LPF.
He said that his union had demanded a hike of 30 per cent in basic wages and 20 per cent hike in allowances. “We have asked the management to provide a minimum hike of 25 per cent and also increase the allowances,” he said.
Central Organisation of TN Electricity Employees general secretary S.S. Subramanian said that all the trade unions participated in the talks rejected the Tangedco’s proposal and sought a fresh proposal but there was no response from management.
