Woman ‘loses’ gold, money hidden behind goddess picture

Vellore: The Gudiyattam town police have registered ‘mistake of fact’ against a complaint filed by a local resident with the police on Saturday.

According to sub-inspector Vasudevan, Venkattammal, 55, wife of Sivaraj and resident of Ashok nagar, had left home on November 14 to see her daughter. Sivaraj, who had quarrelled with her, left Venkattammal a month ago and had been living alone in Ramalai village.

According to the complaint filed by Venkatta­mmal, she left for her daughter’s house after had hidden Rs 2 lakh and 15 sovereign gold jewellery behind the picture of a goddess in the pooja room in her house. She then handed over the keys of the house to one of the building workers engaged in renovating her house, and left.

When she returned home on Saturday morning, she was shocked to find the cash and gold ornaments missing, Venkattammal stated in her complaint.

To check the veracity of the complaint, the police have taken the complaint on the ‘mistake of fact’ ground.
