Garbage raises stink in elite zone
Bengaluru: Despite the presence of high profile government offices and residences of top bureaucrats and judges, the Koramangala 80 Feet Road is littered with garbage all along, thanks to the apathy by civic authorities.
The offices of Commissioner of Youth Services and Sports, Commercial Tax and Regional Passport Office are located on this road. In addition, the nearby National Games Village is home to many top officials.
However it also happens to be a garbage collection point and hence during early morning trash from many places gets dumped here for segregation. The garbage collection point is located barely hundred metres from the National Games Village.
The resulting stench makes life miserable for nearby residents. The pedestrians have a tough time negotiating the trash and the traffic. Even motorists are not spared as the collection point is not spacious enough and during segregation the garbage spills over to the road.
The busy road in Rajendra Nagar falls under the Adugodi Ward (No 147) of BTM Layout Assembly constituency. “Recently some residents even cleaned up the area as it was shabby. But neither government nor the Palike authorities have taken any steps to tackle the garbage menace till date.
They have given us mere assurances,” said Mohammad Khan, a resident of the area. "It is really a shame to have so much garbage littered around here. It is also the collection point and hence the road gets really messy especially in the morning hours.
We had requested the BBMP to move the collection point to an area with more space, but that has not happened till now," said Sheeba Williams, a bank employee and a resident of the area.
“During the segregation, most of the road gets occupied, moreover while dumping garbage some of it even falls on people nearby,” said Sumit Sen.
