Wrong suspect arrest leads to cops transfer
City Inspector and DSP arrests wrong suspect, receives transfer order.
Chennai: State police transferred an inspector and a DSP in Vellore after it was foÂund that they had arrested the wrong suspects in connection with the murder of a BJP office-beÂarer Dr V. ArÂavind ReÂddy in October last year, sources said here.
It is now learnt that the muÂrder was committed by Police Fakruddin and his associates who had beÂen choosing their victims because of their prÂoÂximity to Hindu outfits.
The murder case has already transferred to the special investigation division of the CB (CID) for re-investigation.
AftÂer the suspects, PolÂice FaÂkruddin, Bilal Mallik and Pannai IsmÂail were arrested for the murders of Hindu MuÂnÂnÂani office bearer S. Vellaiyappan in Vellore and BJP state geÂneÂral secretary ‘auditor’ RaÂÂmesh in Salem, they disÂclosed that they were involved in the murders of Dr Reddy and BJP coÂuÂnÂcillor K. Murugan of PaÂramkudi as well.
The cases were transferred to SID. Sources said that a deÂputy superintendent of police and an inspector who went ahead with the arrest of a local gang of history sheeters due to heavy pressure from the top, had been transfeÂrred for making the wrong arrests.
Till FakrÂudÂdin confeÂssed, state police had beÂen maintaining that the murders of Reddy and Murugan had nothing to do with the organisatioÂns they were representing.
