Cops launch hunt for 5 missing girls

The city police has deputed three special teams to track five girls missing from a hostel run by an NGO at Penamaluru.

Vijayawada: The city police has deputed three special teams to track five girls missing from a hostel run by an NGO at Penamaluru.

S. Gayatri, K. Yamini, M. Santhoshi, K. Kavya, all aged around 21, along with a minor girl, were found missing since Sunday morning.

The five missing girls are orphans or abandoned children who had been raised by the NGO, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, at Penamaluru.

They are currently working in various companies in the city while staying at the hostel, according to Penamaluru inspector K. Darmendra.

A complaint was lodged by the NGO officials after they failed to find the girls despite searching for them.

“As per the information given by hostel warden and other officials, it is clear that the girls themselves went out of the hostel,” Darmendra said.

“We are investigating all possible angles, including that of human trafficking. We have deputed three teams to trace the girls, following the orders of the police commissioner,” he said.
