Milma milk to have 90 day shelf-life
Kochi: Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, one of the three regions of Milma, will implement projects worth Rs 100 crore soon.
Mr P. A. Balan, union chairman, told reporters here on Tuesday that Rs 5.3 crore was allocated to provide a unit of five heifer calves to selected 300 SC women from Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur and Idukki districts.
In addition to this, 40 selected SC persons will be given ice cream vending units at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
Another project is underway to develop aseptic packaging at a cost of Rs 24 crore to increase the shelf life of milk to three months.
The union will implement a project worth Rs 21.25 crore to increase the storage and processing capacity of Kattappana dairy to one lakh litres per day for which the Centre will give a grant of RS 15.88 crore.
The Edappally dairy will be developed at a cost of Rs 9.67 crore, in addition to the Tripunithura dairy.
Milk collection in Kottayam district will be increased to 70, 000 litres per day for which Rs 9.53 crore has been allocated while Rs 3 crore will be given to Thrissur dairy for expansion plans.
