Shruti Haasan’s stalker traced her from Twitter?
Social media may have just found itself another movie-star victim. Shruti Haasan, was attacked on Tuesday by a stalker at her Mumbai apartment. According to sources, it was a “regular day” for the 27-year-old, but all that changed when she answered her doorbell at around 9.30 am.
Reports say, the yet-to-be-identified attacker tried to force his way into the house and even grabbed Shruti by her throat. Shocked, but still alert, Shruti managed to fight off the man, who then fled the scene. But he has been described as an obsessed fan.
“There is a stalker who has been following me. Police are now involved,” read an SMS from the actress. Later, her spokesperson confirmed that the actress was safe and that all was well with her. Also, she has now been provided with an extra cover of security.
The buzz from Mumbai is that the stalker had been following the actress around for a while and was even spotted at various shoot locations, including Mehboob Studio.
Many believe the attacker narrowed down on the star’s location, with help from her tweets. Shruti Haasan has been tweeting about the ‘places’ she’s been visiting, regularly... including Shirdi and schedules in and around the city of Mumbai.
‘Location-tweeting’ has proven to be extremely dangerous for celebrities, worldwide.
The most shocking case involved British TV star Helen Flanagan, who was robbed by an armed gang, just hours after she had tweeted that she was home alone.
“Super tired today, which makes me emotional, sensitive and mental. Can’t wait to have my boyfriend home,” she had tweeted.
In fact, there are entire websites dedicated to ‘how to stalk celebrities’ and a few of them even offer ‘expert tips’.
Shruti Haasan’s case is still under investigation but her colleagues are already learning from it.
“I was really shocked when I heard that Shruti was attacked in her own apartment,” said actress Samantha, who’s very active on Twitter. “I didn’t know tweeting could lead to a situation like that and I think, after this incident, I should stop personal tweets. Now, I’ll just tweet about my movies and my work,” she added.
