87% MBAs get top jobs: GMAC survey
87 per cent of Indian MBA graduates working with top companies: Survey.
Chennai: A survey by the US - Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) has revealed that 87 per cent of Indian MBA students who graduated this year were placed in top companies.
The GMAC exit survey of graduating management students was conducted among students in 129 business schools around the world.
The survey also revealed that a third of Indian citizens (33 per cent) work outside India with the remaining working in India for multi national companies. “Indian students who graduated from full-time, MBA programme reported a median starting salary of USD 34,988 (about Rs 21,88,500) per year. Former Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ranchi, director and executive director of VIT University, Prof M.J. Xavier, questioned the rationale of the survey.
“GMAC says that 87 per cent of the MBAs are placed in top companies, but the scenario is not so. The percentage of MBA graduates getting placed has come down to 60 per cent ,while the data is limited to a small group of business schools,” he said. Pointing out that more number of Indian students who aspire to do management studies get admitted to several foreign business schools, the former IIM director said India lacked opportunities for management graduate students who could afford expensive education and go abroad for MBA programmes. “We see this number going up and students migrate to the U.S. for opportunities even as their economy is still tumbling,” he added.
