Kovai Duronto converted to Shatabdi with Rajdhani services
Coimbatore bound Duronto to run as Shatadbdi and Rajdhani-like services for Nov 22.
Chennai: The Duronto trains bound to Coimbatore and Thiruvananthapuram from Chennai Central would henceforth run as Shatadbdi and Rajdhani-like services respectively from November 22.
According to an official release from SR (Southern Railway), train No. 12243/12244 Chennai Central–Coimbatore-Chennai Central Duronto express trains would run as Shatabdi express trains with commercial stoppages at Salem, Erode and Tirupur.
Train No. 12243 starting from Chennai Central at 7.15 am, would leave Salem at 11.25 am, Erode at 12.25 pm, Tirupur at 1.02 pm and arrive Coimbatore at 2.05 pm. In the return direction, train No. 12244 Coimbatore–Chennai Central Shatabdi express will leave Coimbatore at 3.20 pm, Tirupur at 4.02 pm, Erode at 4.55 pm, Salem at 5.50 pm and arrive Chennai Central at 10.15 pm.
Similarly, bi-weekly train No. 22207 / 22208 Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram–Chennai Central Duronto express trains would be converted to run as AC superfast express trains with Rajdhani rares with commercial stoppages at Ernakulam junction and Kollam.
Train No. 22207 will leave Chennai Central at 4.30 pm, Ernakulam junction at 1.55 am, Kollam at 4.02 am, and arrive Thiruvananthapuram at 5.45 am the next day.
In the return direction, train No. 22208 will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 9.30 pm, Kollam at 10.27 pm, Ernakulam junction at 00.45 am and arrive Chennai Central at 10.30 am the next day.
There would not be any change in the composition and days of service of the trains, the release added. The Duronto services, which were a pet project of former railway minister Mamata Banerjee, were being converted following poor patronage. One of the major reasons for the poor patronage was the passengers felt the Duronto fares were too high for the quality of service offered.
