RTC bus injures eight
Hyderabad: Eight persons were injured when they were hit by an RTC bus at the Rathi-file bus stand, Secunderabad, on Wednesday afternoon. The victims, two of whom had serious injuries, were rushed to the nearest hospital. Sources said that the bus first hit a two-wheeler and then the pedestrians.
At around 1 pm, the bus, bearing registration number AP 29 Z 1636 of the Medchal bus depot, was coming from the Uppal bus stop towards Secunderabad Railway station.
Sources said that the bus – No. 229 – which was reportedly being rashly driven, hit a Splendor bike ridden by Srinivas and Venu in front of the Ganesh Temple. The bike came under the wheels of the bus.
“It was due to the bike which came under the wheels, that a major calamity was avoided. The bus also hit other pedestrians. However, because the bike was under the wheels, the bus slowed down and stopped,” said M.C. Kotaiah, sub-inspector of police, Gopalpuram police station.
Passers-by immediately shifted the injured to Sreekara Multi-specialty Hospital. Among the injured, Suryakala, 50, a resident of Moosapet, sustained a head injury while Yadagiri, 55 and Nagabus-hanam, 50, sustained leg fractures. The others sustained minor injuries.
Suryakala’s nephew Ravi said, “She came to Secunderabad to see a doctor in Yashoda Hospitals here. She was hit by the bus as soon as she got down. We have taken her for scanning and other tests and are awaiting the reports. She had also vomited after the incident, which is not a good sign.”
The victims with minor injuries were released after medication. A case of negligence has been registered. “We have registered a case and the bus has been seized. The splendor bike, which was damaged, is also in the police station.
We are yet to get the bus inspected by a Motor Vehicle official, after that we can come to a conclusion whether it was a brake failure or negligence,” Kotaiah said.
Sources said that the driver, who had fled the spot, later approached the police and surrendered. The cops are yet to show an arrest.
