Making Sreeni weep
For Felix Joseph, the passion for visualising his thoughts made him land in the film world. Now, he is all set to make a debut as a director in Mollywood, with his movie 'Weeping Boy', starring Sreenivasan.
“I grew up watching dramas and cultural performances in my hometown Chalakkudy. It had a subtle influence on me which I didn't recognise until I joined college. When I started to take part in programmes in college, I started to involve myself in the visual world," says Felix.
Without having any academic training, it was his passion that taught him the lessons of visual making.
“While I was doing my predegree in Christ College, Irinjalakkuda, I loved to visualise my thoughts. That's how I decided to start an ad film company in 2005 and it became the stepping stone to reach my ultimate destiny -films," says Felix, who has more than 100 commercials to his credit.
Some of the commercials for popular brands like Alukkas and NIFE were his creations. “Ad filmmaking helped me enhance creativity and visual sense. It helped me become diplomatic and assertive, two important aspects required when you enter the film industry. Those experiences helped me dissolve the fears that besiege a newcomer in filmmaking.”
Felix says that the story of 'Weeping Boy' is based on an incident he witnessed during my college days. “If I narrate the incident it will ruin the suspense of the movie. As the title suggests, Sreenivasan sir’s character, Sahadevan, is that of a very sensitive person who gets emotional at the slightest provocation. He is a veterinary doctor who is transferred to a village Kannadikkara, where he meets Faisal and Geethu, two youngsters in love.
Problems creep into their relationship which Sahadevan tries to settle leading to deeper issues, which is the crux of the story. The movie is a mix of romance and comedy and you will get to see Sreenivasan sir back in action with his comedy."
He adds, “I have been working on this project for a while now and it was Sreenivasan sir who gave it the thumbs up to proceed with the project, after discussing the story with him three years ago."
