Theft charge against lobbyist Nandakumar
Kochi: Kochi police has brought up theft charges against lobbyist T.G. Nandakumar, said to be a close aide of Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan.
The Ernakulam North police filed an FIR before Judicial First Class Magistrate Court against Nandakumar who allegedly stole a letter sent by KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala to litigant Jomon Puthenpurackal.
The police acted on a complaint filed by Puthenpurackal who said that Chennithala had sent him a letter in his Ernakulam address. Nandakumar on January 2, 2011 along with others broke into his room in Ernakulam PWD Rest House room No 17 and stole the letter and several other documents, the complainant alleged.
Nandakumar later produced the letter before HC in a case, Jomon told the police. As per the FIR filed by V. Vimal, SI of central police station, Nandakumar submitted the letter before the court on his plea seeking a directive to stay the FIR registered against him in connection with the allegations of financial irregularities raised by Jomon.
He had filed an application before the Neendur post office to redirect the letters to his Ernakulam address when he was away. The cops registered a case under section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 380 (theft in dwelling house), and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
