Mejjo steps into B’town
Heartwarming melodies form the hallmark of young music director Mejjo Joseph. His stint in the music world is breaking barriers, reaching heights that his contemporaries can only dream of —Bollywood. Mejjo is all set to do the background score of the Hindi version of 'Traffic' directed by Rajesh Pillai.
“Rajesh wanted me to do the background score for the Hindi version of 'Traffic' and it is quite exciting. Discussions are on as to how we could reinvent the music to suit the taste of the audiences there,” says, Mejjo.
Mejjo’s tryst as a music composer started with Roshan Andrew’s Notebook and the songs went on to become chartbusters. “It’s just six years ago that I began as a music composer. There is more to accomplish. I am still in the growing stage and there is a lot to learn and even more to explore.”
Looking back at his body of work, most of his work was with new directors. Mejjo says, “Whenever I work in a movie, I take it as a new experiment. A positive thing when you work with new directors or a new team is that they are open to experimentation and visual treatment. I can easily collaborate with their spirit and vibe. But working with two senior directors like Roshann Andrews and Johnny Antony was a good experience. They gave me the space and freedom to work with my music and the most important factor is the trust that a director reposes in his music composer.”
For Mejjo, the creation of melody tracks is even more challenging. “I am more inclined to do melody songs because the power of a music composer is proved when he gives a good melodious song. Now, the pace of our film is fast that the need of songs are gradually decreasing and the needs for melodious tunes are increasing. Even in fast numbers, there is an element of melody in it.”
Now Mejjo’s hands are full with projects from Mollywood. “Law Point, Town 2 Town and Konthayum Poonulum are some of the projects I am working on now. I am also working on my second Telugu project. I would love to do some more projects in Tamil too. I grew up listening to Tamil tracks composed by A. R. Rahman, so I have a special attachment to the Tamil industry,” signs off Mejjo.
