Antara Mitra, who is one of the youngest playback singers in Bollywood already has a handful of hits in the name, the latest ones being 'Sari Ke Fall Sa' and 'Kaddu Katega' from 'R..Rajkumar'. Earlier, she made quite an impact with 'Bheegi Si Bhaagi Si' from 'Rajneeti' and 'Ale' from 'Golmaal 3'.
Speaking of the response to 'Sari Ke…' Antara says, “I have been getting some amazing response from the music fraternity and that gives me a high. It’s very rewarding.” She adds, “I was singing something else at the studio when Pritam da asked me to record this song as they needed it very urgently. The only brief I got about this song was that the director was Prabhu Deva, someone who likes to shoot his songs in a fun way. The fun element had to be there and so I tried to keep the energy levels high. The song came out well and everyone liked it. Pritam da is someone who gives his singers freedom to excel and explore.” Antara loved singing for Sonakshi Sinha. “She’s one of the few actresses of this generation that I like. When I saw the video, I was happy to see her adding the x-factor to the song.”
A few years ago when she had sung 'Bheegi Si' in 'Rajneeti', Antara wasn’t sure of herself at all. She recalls, “I sang this song late in the night and was unsure about my voice. I didn’t know if it would be picked for the film at all. I just recorded and forgot about it. Then one morning I woke up to the song and told my mom excitedly it’s my song! I couldn’t believe the song was for Ranbir Kapoor! I absolutely adore him.”
Besides singing, Antara has also dabbled in acting. She says, “In 2009, Vikas Gupta who is a friend and also the creative head in Balaji asked me to come for a look test and I did it just for the fun of it. That’s how I bagged the series 'Koi Aane Ko Hai'. I did get many offers after that. But once my song in Rajneeti was appreciated, I knew I wanted to pursue singing. I know there’s good money in acting but music is my first love.”
