South Central Railway surge into finals
Hyderabad: South Central Railway qualified for the finals of both the men's and women's competitions at the Annual Basketball League organised by the Hyderabad District Badminton Association in Hyderabad.
In the finals, SCR men will clash with the AOC Centre while the women will lock horns with YMCA Secunderabad.
In the men's semifinals, SCR thrashed Nizam Basketball Academy 80-54 and AOC Centre shot down Artillery Centre 76-52. In the women's semis, YMCA Secunderabad scored an edgy 55 50 victory over Nizam Basketball Academy while SCR crushed St Pious High School 43-10. AOC began the match all guns blazing.
By the end of the second quarter, they were 30 points in the lead at 44-14. While Artillery picked up over the next two quarters, AOC had done enough damage to win the match 76-52. Irfan top-scored for AOC with 32 points while Lakhbir (15) and Velu (13) shone for Artillery.
Among women, YMCA and NBA were locked in an engorssing battle. By the end of the second quarter, YMCA led NBA 2116. They maintained their fivepoint lead over the next two quarters to win 55-50.

?Avanthi, Kasturba champs
Hyderabad: Avanthi Degree College and Kasturba Gandhi Degree College won the men's and women's team championships at the inter-college athletics championships, organised by Osmania University at the Gachibowli Stadium.
Kasturba's K. Achuta Kumari was adjudged best female athlete while Bhavan's Vivekananda's M. Ratan Kumar was the best male athlete.
Kasturba had scored 68 points to walk away with the top honours. Government College of Physical Education (GCPE) with 35.5, finished second and Bhavan's Vivekananda, with 20, stood third. Among men, Avanthi scored 46 points to claim the top prize while Nizam College were a dis tant second with 26 points. Bhavan's Vivekananda, with 24, brought up the rear.
Achuta won the women's 100m, clocking 12.9 seconds. B. Sahiti of Wesley Degree College . was a tenth of a second slower , than Achuta. P. Srilatha (13.1s) of Kasturba finished third. Ratan Kumar clocked an impressive 49.7 seconds to win men's 400m. M. Gemya (50.1) of Avanthi Degree College and T.
Ravi Kumar (50.2) of Nizam College were second and third.
OSMANIA UNIVERSITY FENCING CAMP TODAY
Hyderabad: The Osmania University fencing coaching camp for men and women will be held at Shree Hanuman Vyayamshala High School, Hanman Tekdi, from Thursday 6 pm. All the fencers should report to Dhan Kishan, coach, at the venue along with their eligibility forms. For further particulars, contact Prof L.B. On-the-spot entries will be accepted. The top three athletes in each category will be awarded merit certificates and medals. Others would be given participation certificates.

AP LAD SHASHANK IN TENNIS SEMIFINALS
?Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh lad M.A Theertha Shashank advanced to the under-14 boys singles semifinals at the All India Championship Series being held at Top Spin Tennis Academy in Bengaluru.
Shashank defeated Aaron Raj of Tamil Nadu 5-3, 4-2 in a closely-contested quarterfinal match.
In the under-14 boys' doubles, Shashank, partnering Karnataka's C.H. Arjun, defeated the duo of Anirudh and Achit, both from Karnataka, 4-1, 4-1 to make it to the semis.
