Realty bytes: Wonder kitchens
A well-designed modular kitchen has many advantages over a traditional kitchen because of its planned space management. A lot of storage can be created even in the smallest of kitchen areas
More and more Keralites are becoming house proud, passionately interested in the latest in home decor and interiors. But it is the new concepts in kitchen décor that are stealing hearts.
The kitchen, perfectly planned and inspiring, is making a style statement.
“Though all our accessories are made in Italy, they are produced keeping in mind demands of Indian cooking,” says Anjali Sivasankar, floor manager at Veneta Cucine, the first Italian brand to enter the Kerala market in 2007.
With designs that come in a multitude of finishes the brand (marketed by CC India) has showrooms across the country.
In Kerala, however, the brand has a showroom only in Kochi, but we have a clients coming in from Thrissur, Kottayam, Kollam and Kozhikode as well,” says Anjali as she takes us through a tour of the plush kitchens at their showroom.
With prices ranging from five to a couple of lakhs, the finishes are available in lacquer, wood, laminates and glass.
The brand’s forte is impeccable installation and accessories. Apart from pullout trays and racks, items like weighing machine, recipe book holder and ironing table attachment form part of the accessories.
An enticing feature is the 40 percent off on any of the display modules which is a huge hit in all the showrooms across the country.
The brand’s kitchen appliances like hobs, sinks, wine coolers, food warmers and water purifiers are part of the extensive system of pullouts and wall units.
Apart from kitchens, Veneta also has bedroom modules with spacious wardrobes that come in etched mirror finish.
Most important is the customer-company bond that doesn’t end with the sale of the module. “A lifetime guarantee ensures that the services are done regularly by a personnel from the company,” points out Anjali.
Owing to Kerala’s humid climate, modular brands are also preferred for their durability, moisture and termite resistance.
A well-designed modular kitchen has many advantages over a traditional kitchen because of its planned space management. A lot of storage can be created even in the smallest of kitchen areas.
“With a dearth of good carpenters, factory-fitted furniture is going to be the norm of the day,” says Thomas Tharakan who introduced Keralites to the beauty of the German Hacker Kitchens.
With a showroom in Kochi, Hacker will soon make its presence felt in Kerala with a satellite showroom in the Thiruvananthapuram.
With units in enticing colours like aubergine purple, Hackers USP is its robotically made flawless accessories and pull out units.
Though Keralites are known for their passion for solid wood, Tharakan, CEO of Hacker Kitchen in Kerala, says it’s the sleek glass finish and high gloss laquer units in various shades that’s fast moving here. The latest from Hacker are its handle-less units that spell minimalism. Hacker Kitchens are now being incorporated by many builders in Kochi.
Another relatively new Italian brand that’s making inroads in the modular market is Scavollini which has around 1000 showrooms across 60 countries.
The brand is soon venturing into living and bedroom modules as well.
