Knockout Necklines

Neckline drama gets more exciting with various options.

A cut can enhance or ruin your entire look. That’s the power of the neckline. In fact, the neckline can create quite a stir (both the right and wrong kind), so the advice is to handle it with care and precision.

“Since it’s close to your face and comes in the instant area of focus, make sure you choose a style that complements your body type,” is the first rule designer Gaviin Miguel lays down. “High necks are the order of the day, especially in an evening gown, sheath dress or knitwear,” he says.

However, fashion doesn’t always take diktats from the weather, it loves setting its own course.

Miguel adds, “Flaunt a cowl neck to convey the message that draping is still going big. The keyhole neck makes a sensual frontal cut around the cleavage or midriff area and it’s a fantastic option for a bold fashionista. For best effects, flaunt in it on an evening gown in winter pastel shades. And for that single style trend vis-a-vis the neckline that’s sweeping the board — just decolletage in the sweetheart cut. The likes of Gucci, Lanvin and Prada have scripted their Fall 2013 neckline story with the strong presence of this particular style. Remember, flaunting your collar bone is what is prescribed by the fashion experts.”

Defying the conventional, designer Debarun Mukherjee wants to define neckline with a deep V plunge. “Doesn’t matter if it’s winter, the deep V neckline is a fashion statement that can be worn boldly with different add-ons and accessories like scarves, turtlenecks, shoulder warmers, neck roll-ons. Design it on a long silhouette in a dark tone. While it allows the space to be highlighted, the accessories fashionably tackle the winter chill,” he says.

The deep V neckline finds favour with designer Rajat Tangri as well. “It shows some skin which can give the neck a longer look. This illusion adds to the glam quotient of the woman wearing it,” he points out.

Rajat offers some style tips: “Introduce some intelligent use of layering in the scene. Wear a jacket on top of it, drape a stole. Or for more formal appearance, a chunky neckpiece seals the deal.”

Pairing of V-necks and boat necks with straight silhouettes is quite appealing to the eyes at the moment, informs designer Pallavi Mohan. She says, “Different kinds of necklines including high neck and embroidered collars are very fashionable. To accessorise the neckline, work on details such as heart motifs in laser cut, fur trims, claw crystal detailing and metal teeth hems. Remember constructed attire bring the best out of a neckline. Velvet, wool and jacquard are the season’s demand. For signature styles integrate a more deeper, daring style vision.”

Whereas, designer Medhavini Khaitan points out how to rev up the attire with a stylish neckline. “Bring your neckline and backline on common grounds with similar pattern embroidery on a sheath dress. The vital part of the neckline story is a neckpiece. Accessorise it beautifully and you are good to go.”
