Fans overwhelm Korean film ace
Kim Ki-Duk once again confirms that he is the most loved auteur at the IFFK. For the first time in IFFK's history, two whole theatres overflowed with fans during the 'In Conversation' with Kim.
Meeting Kim Ki-Duk is definitely the most cherished memory of IFFK 2013 for any movie buff. Hundreds of fans turned up at Kairali complex on Thursday to meet their all-time favourite South Korean filmmaker.
Fans were seen fighting and jostling for seats, which were blocked for guests. Within no time both the halls were flooded with fans and media personnel.
Kim Ki-duk was welcomed to the “In Conversation“ with a huge round of applause. Awestruck by the fan following and media glare, Kim Ki-Duk was seen shooting the jam-packed hall on his mobile. He candidly interacted with his fans, clicked pictures and even sang a song.
Fans quizzed him with quirky questions starting from the psyche behind the stories he tells to the process of film-making, his relationships with actors and even the reason for such a huge fan following.
It’s a dream come for many movie buffs, who were seen thronging the Kairali complex in serpentine queues for autographs and photographs of their chosen one, as it were.
“Kim Ki-Duk is a phenomenon. His movies are off beat yet entertaining. Art movies made here are not entertaining. While, his movies with no dialogues are entertaining than any commercial film,” says Achuth Krishnan, a movie enthusiast.
“His films, despite the violence, try to convey the story of the marginalized and downtrodden. I have seen most of his movies and I am fortunate I got a chance to meet him,” said Arun S, another delegate.
