‘I’ve worked like an aam admi to get here’, says Salman Khan
At the poster launch of his next release 'Jai Ho', Salman Khan was at his exuberant best. “Jai Ho bhi ab Dhoom machayegi,” says the superstar, alluding to his friend Aamir Khan’s 'Dhoom 3'.
The film earlier had the working title 'Mental', and Salman, as usual, makes a joke out of it,“Kyunki hum mental hai is liye Jai Ho ka pehla title Mental rakha. Well, no sooner did we decide to give the film an apt title, my father wanted us to change it to 'Jai Ho'. I think every son needs to respect the feelings and opinions of his father.”
“I got the chance to become an actor in Sooraj Barjatiya’s 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' and I thank god for it,” says Salman, while talking about his stupendous career. “I am like an aam admi… I have always liked to ride a bike and commute by rickshaws like any other commoner. For making it in Bollywood, too, I have had to work hard like an aam admi. I also feel humbled that I am here only because of the fans who have supported me year after year. We make films not for the theatres but for our fans. And so I wanted to get directly in touch with them with our very first promos of 'Jai Ho',” adds the star.
Salman says he felt the need to get closer to his fans. “I thought it would be great if the fans got an opportunity to watch the promos with us and the media… I love my fans and like to share my thoughts as well as my feelings with them directly. Therefore, I tried to share the promos with them.”
“All actors feel bad when they have to give up this life. The respect, adulation and praises that we get for our performances, and our good deeds keep us going. But I hope Insha’Allah abhi mere liye bahut time hai,” says Salman who has no plans to call it quits in the industry.
Set to release in January 2014, 'Jai Ho' is a remake of A.R. Murugadoss’ 'Stalin' starring Chiranjeevi (which also took inspiration from the Hollywood film 'Pay It Forward') and has been directed by Salman’s younger brother Sohail.
