Aamir Khan won’t do films down South
As he readies for the release of 'Dhoom 3', Aamir Khan says he is missing the presence of YRF patriarch and industry legend Yash Chopra. “Yashji was part of the planning process for this film… He knew the script and was keenly following its progress. I was just telling Adi (Aditya Chopra) a few days ago that the biggest regret I have is that Yashji is not here to see 'Dhoom 3' release. He would have been so happy and proud. We’ll miss his presence,” Aamir said, in an interview with DC.
On a positive note though, the actor, known as the industry’s Mr Perfectionist, said that his part in 'Dhoom 3' has been the most challenging one he’s essayed in over 25 years. Referring to the stunts he’s performed, Aamir said, “Doing these acts, and rehearsing for them, was tough. We could have been injured… but luckily we weren’t. Katrina bruised her knee though, which was taken care of.”
Aamir added that all the stunts were performed only under the guidance of experts and taking all the necessary safety precautions. He also dissuaded young impressionable fans from trying to mimic any of the stunts, stating firmly, “I don’t want the youth to try this in real life.”
What has been noticed about 'Dhoom 3' is its somewhat low-key publicity drive. Aamir said he’s perfectly happy with the way the film is being promoted as in his opinion “less is more”. “I am happy that the promos that are being released to the audience in installments are feeding curiosity. People have been guessing what my equation with Katrina is like,” he added.
As a star who has spearheaded some of the biggest box office grosser ('3 Idiots') in B-town, it is but natural to wonder if 'Dhoom 3' will be yet another Aamir Khan money-spinner. However, Aamir provided a measured reply: “To a certain degree, all stars have the strength to influence the numbers at the box office — at least over the first three days of the film’s opening,” he said. “But beyond that, we do not have any control over the film’s fate. A lot of people attributed the success of '3 Idiots' to me. But it is not my film — it is Raju’s (Rajkumar Hirani) and Abhijat’s (Joshi) film. I do not think any film runs on the strength of the stars — (other than) Salman, who according to me, is the real number one. He bulldozes through all logic. I do not have that capability. For me, if the script is not good enough, I will not be able to make a mark in a film. I feel a film does well only when it is good — I only contribute to its first three days.”
As for experimenting with the regional film industries in the country, Aamir said he’d like to try his hand at a Marathi film, but ruled out projects down South. “I don’t think I can easily mouth Tamil, Telugu or any other South Indian language fluently. So I feel I will not be able to take up those projects,” Aamir said.
