Electronic ticketing launched in KSRTC’s Sabarimala buses
Thiruvananthapuram: In an effort to streamline the frequency of bus services and the running time of Sabarimala chain services, the KSRTC has introduced GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)-enabled Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETM) in over 100 chain services plying between Nilakkal and Pampa. The KSRTC is planning to introduce the facility in all the 6,000 fleet of buses across the state this financial year.
The machines which will be connected centrally to a server will help easy access to information, including daily collection and the total number of tickets sold between bus stops.
The KSRTC has already introduced ETMs in 650 buses across the state. The cost of each ETM is Rs 9,500 and the project is estimated to cost around Rs 4 crore. A top official of KSRTC said that the busy Sabarimala chain services will help check the efficiency of the equipment.
KSRTC Executive Director (Administration) Sreekumar told DC that ETMs have been already introduced in Thiruvananthapuram, Chengannur, Pampa and Kottayam. “ETMs will be launched in Ernakulam within two days,” said Sreekumar.
